26th Filmfare Awards 1979 – Highlights

  • Don and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki received nine (9) awards each. Both the films received the most awards in the 26th Filmfare Awards (1979).
  • Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki received nine (9) nominations. Whereas, Don received five (5) nominations.
  • By receiving nine (9) nominations Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki became the most nominated films. However, surprisingly Muqaddar Ka Sikandar could not win even a single award.
  • Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar received the most nominations (9). Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki won three awards out of nine. Whereas, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar could not win a single award.
  • Therefore, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar became the first film in the history of Filmfare Awards when one of the most nominated films could not win even a single award.
  • Similarly, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Trishul received second-most nominations (6) each. Satyam Shivam Sundaram won two out of six nominations. However, Trishul failed to win any award.
  • Thus, Trishul also became the first film in the history of Filmfare Awards that could not win a single award even after having second-most nominations.
  • Nutan received nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for the same film Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki. This confusing situation occurred for the fourth time in the history of Filmfare Awards. She won the award in the Best Actress category.
  • Earlier Ashok Kumar was nominated in the category of Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for the same film Aashirwad. He won the Best Actor Award in the 17th Filmfare Awards 1970.
  • Thereafter, in the 21st Filmfare Awards (1974), Nutan was nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for the same film Saudagar. However, she failed to win either.
  • In the 25th Filmfare Awards (1978) Rakhee received nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for the same film Doosra Aadmi.
  • Film Don received five (5) nominations and won three (3) of them.
  • Film Pati Patni Aur Woh received four (4) Awards and won only one for Best Screenplay.
  • Film Apnapan and Shatranj Ke Khilari received three nominations each. Both films won two (2) awards each.
  • Film Devata also received three (3) awards. However, the film won only one (1) award for Best Sound.
  • Shalimar too received three nominations but could not win even a single.
