Highlights-6th Filmfare Awards 1959

  • Madhumati received twelve (12) nominations and won nine (9) out of them and created a new record at that time.
  • Madhumati broke the record of Mother India that won five (5) Awards in the 5th Filmfare Awards (1958).
  • Film Sadhna received Six 6 nomination but could win only two of them.
  • Film Kala Pani received two (2) nominations and won both of them. 
  • Film Talaaq received three (3) nominations but could not win any of them.
  • J.C. Jain hosted the 6th Filmfare Award.
  • Vyjayanthimala became the first actress to receive two nominations in the category of Best Actress in the same year.
  • The Filmfare Best Dialogue Award was introduced in 6th Filmfare Award. Rajinder Singh Bedi became the first one to receive the award for Madhumati
  • Dev Anand won his first Filmfare Award for Kala Pani. He produced the film under his own Banner Navketan Films.
