- Madhumati received twelve (12) nominations and won nine (9) out of them and created a new record at that time.
- Madhumati broke the record of Mother India that won five (5) Awards in the 5th Filmfare Awards (1958).
- Film Sadhna received Six 6 nomination but could win only two of them.
- Film Kala Pani received two (2) nominations and won both of them.
- Film Talaaq received three (3) nominations but could not win any of them.
- J.C. Jain hosted the 6th Filmfare Award.
- Vyjayanthimala became the first actress to receive two nominations in the category of Best Actress in the same year.
- The Filmfare Best Dialogue Award was introduced in 6th Filmfare Award. Rajinder Singh Bedi became the first one to receive the award for Madhumati
- Dev Anand won his first Filmfare Award for Kala Pani. He produced the film under his own Banner Navketan Films.
