65th Filmfare Awards 2020

65th Filmfare Awards were held in Mumbai on 15 February 2020. Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar hosted the show. Vicky Kaushal hosted the show for the second consecutive year. He hosted the 64th Filmfare Awards (2019) along with Shah Rukh Khan, Rajkummar Rao, and Ayushmann Khurrana.

65th Filmfare Awards 2020 – Highlights

1. Filmfare Awards have been held in Bombay / Mumbai since the 1st Filmfare Awards ceremony (1953).
   • However, it was the first time when the award ceremony was held outside Mumbai. 
   • The 65th Filfmare Awards (2020) was held on 15 February 2020 in Guwahati, Assam.
2. Film Gully Boy won the most awards in the 65th Filmfare Awards (2020).
   • Gully Boy won thirteen (13) awards and thus became the most awarded film of Filmfare History.
   • Gully Boy broke the record of Devdas (48th Filmfare Awards 2003) and Black (51st Filmfare Awards 2006), which won eleven awards each.
   • Gully Boy received nineteen (19) nominations.
   • By receiving nineteen (19) nominations, Gully Boy became the most nominated film of this year.
   • Gully Boy received the second-highest nomination in the history of Filmfare Awards.
   • Film Rang De Basanti holds the record for most nominations. The film received twenty-one nominations in the 52nd Filmfare Awards 2007.
3. Uri: The Surgical Strike received the second-most nominations in the 65th Filmfare Awards (2020).
   • Uri received thirteen (13) nominations and won three of them.
4. Film Article 15 and Sonchiriya received eleven (11) nominations each.
   • Article 15 won three (3) awards. Sonchiriya won two awards.
5. Film Kalank, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, and Kabir Singh received nine nominations each.
   • Kalank won two (2) awards. Arijit Singh won the award in the category of Best Male Playback Singer for the title song.
   • Remo D’Souza won the award in the category of Best Choreographer for the song Ghar More Pardesia from Kalank.
   • Kabir Singh and Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota won one (1) award each.
   • Abhimanyu Dassani won the Best Male Debut Actor for the film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota.
6. Film Kesari received eight (8) nominations. However, the film did not win any awards.
7. Film War received seven (7) nominations and won three of them.
   • The film won in the categories of Best Action, Best Special Effects, and Best Female Playback Singer.
   • Shilpa Rao won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song Ghunghroo.
8. Film Saand Ki Aankh, Judgementall Hai Kya, and Mission Mangal received six (6) nominations each.
   •  Saand Ki Aankh won two awards. Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar won the Critics Best Actress Award.
   • Judgementall Hai Kya and Mission Mangal could not win any awards.
9. Film Chhichhore received five (5) nominations but did not win any.
10. Film Badla and Photograph received four (4) nominations each. Both films did not win any awards.
11. Film Good Newwz, Super 30, Bala, Mardaani 2, The Sky Is Pink, and Bharat received three nominations each.
    • None of the films could win any awards.
12. Film Student of the year received two (2) nominations and won one (1) of them.
    • Ananya Panday and Tara Sutariya received nominations in the category of Best Female Debut Actress.
    • Ananya Panday won the award.
13. Film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Yeh Saali Aashiqui, and Panipat also received two nominations each.
    • None of the films could win any awards.
14. Fifteen films, which received two (2) or more nominations, could not win any awards.
    • This happened the first time in the history of Filmfare Awards.
    • Earlier, in the 60th Filmfare Awards (2015), ten (10) films, which received two (2) or more nominations, could not win any awards.
15. Actor Govinda received Filmfare Special Award for Excellence in Indian Cinema.
16. Manish Malhotra also received Filmfare Special Award for 30 Years of outstanding contribution to Bollywood Fashion.
17. Film Producer and Director Ramesh Sippy received Lifetime Achievement Award.
