Filmfare Special Award

Filmfare Special Award is a part of the annual Filmfare Awards. People know these awards with many other names. These names are (1) Jury Award, (2) Special Performance Award, (3) Filmfare Special Award, or (4) Special Award.

Filmfare Awards were inaugurated on 21 March 1954. However, the Filmfare Special Award was introduced in the year 1972.

Jaya Bachchan and Prithviraj Kapoor became the first winners of this award. Jaya Bachchan received the award for her excellent performance in the film Uphaar. Whereas, it was a special commendation for Prithviraj Kapoor

The Filmfare Special Award aims to encourage film personalities to achieve new milestones in their respective fields.

The Special Award can be given to an Actor, Producer, Director, Musician, or any other artist without prejudice to any category.

Thus, the Filmfare special award may also be called Filmfare Miscellaenious Award.

The Filmfare Special Awards is usually given to someone for some extraordinary work in their respective field.

However, the award is occasionally given to film personalities for their remarkable commitment to the entertainment world.

Note-1

The Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer was introduced in the 6th Filmfare Awards (1959). Lata Mangeshkar received 19 nominations in 13 years from 1959 to 1971.

Thereafter, she requested not to consider her name for a nomination. She did it to promote new talent. Thus, the Jury decided to give Filmfare Special Award for the song Didi Tera Dever Deewana from Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

Note-2

Asha Bhosle received 20 nominations in 12 years from 1968-1979 in the category for Best Female Playback Singer. She also requested not to consider her name for Filmfare nominations like her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar.

Thereafter, she requested not to consider her name for a nomination. She did it to promote new talent. Thus, the Jury decided to give Filmfare Special Award for the song Tanha Tanha Yaahan Pe Jeena from Rangeela.
