About
The 1st IIFA Awards was held on 24 June 2000 at Millennium Dom, London, United Kingdom. Since then, the Award Ceremony is being held in different countries and continents. Above all, the IIFA Awards have become a symbol of glorifying the success of Bollywood in the world.
The IIFA Award for Best Background Score is being given since the inception of the IIFA Awards in 2000. Vishal Dadlani became the first recipient of the Best Background Score award. He received the award for Godmother (1999).
The Award for Best Background Score is a Technical Award and a part of the Annual IIFA Awards.
The IIFA Award for Best Background Award is meant to honor the Music Directors for their excellent work for making an extraordinary Background Score.

- A. R. Ramman has grabbed the most number of the IIFA Award for Best Background Score. He has won the award five (5) times.
- For Saathiya in the 4th IIFA Awards (2003).
- He also won the IIFA Best Music Director Award for Saathiya.
- For Rang De Basanti in the 8th IIFA Awards (2007).
- A.R. Rahman won two other IIFA Awards in the 8th IIFA Awards (2007) for Rang De Basanti. He won the Best Music Director and the Best Song recording.
- A.R. Rahman also received a Nomination for IIFA Award for Best Male Playback Singer. He received the nomination for the song Ru Baroo from Rang De Basanti.
- For Guru in the 9th IIFA Awards (2008).
- A. R. Rahman also won the IIFA Award for Best Music Director for Gur. It was the 3rd time when A.R. Rahman bagged both Best Background Score and Best Music Director Awards for the same film.
