About-Filfmare Best Performance in a Comic Role

The Filmfare Awards are one of the most prestigious awards of Indian Cinema. The First Filmfare Award Was held on 21 March 1954.

Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role was also a part of the annual Filmfare Awards.

The first Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role was given in the 14th Filmfare Awards (1967).

Mehmood received the first award for the film Pyar Kiya Jaa.

Arshad Warsi won the award for the film Lage Raho Munna Bhai in the 52nd Filmfare Awards (2007). Thereafter, no one has received the awards until now. Read more Highlights

  • In the 22nd Filmfare Awards (1975), Mehmood received three nominations out of five nominations. Thus, Mehmood holds the record for maximum nominations in a single year.  
  • Utpal Dutt and Deven Verma won three (3) awards each.
  • Jagdeep and Laxmikant Berde could not win any award despite having four (4) nominations each.

Most Consecutive Nominations.

  • Mehmood received consecutive nominations for four years in a row. He received seventeen (17) nominations in eleven (11) consecutive years from 1967 to 1977.
  • Johnny Lever received consecutive nominations for nine (9) years. He received twelve (12) nominations in consecutive years from 1996 to 2004.
  • Deven Verma received consecutive nominations for four years in a row. He received ten (10) nominations in six (9) consecutive years from 1976 to 1981.
  • Asrani received consecutive nominations for four years in a row. He did it twice. First from 1974 to 1977 and second from 1979 to 1982.
