Khamoshi: The Musical received thirteen (13) nominations. Raja Hindustani received ten (10) nominations and won the award for the Filmfare Best Film too. By receiving thirteen (13) nominations Khamoshi: The Musical became the most nominated film in the 42nd Filmfare Awards (1997). Film Maachis received the second-highest nominations. The film received eleven (11) nominations and won four (4) of them. Film Agni Sakshi received seven (7) nominations. However, the film did not win any awards. Film Ghatak received six (6) nominations and won three (3) of them. Film Bandit Queen received five (5) nominations and won two (2) of them. Film Saajan Chale Sasural and Papa Kehte Hai received three (3) nominations each. Both films win one award each too. Film Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi received two (2) nominations and won both of them. Film Daraar also received two nominations. However, the film won only one of them. Film Chaahat, Jeet, Fareb, and Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin received two nominations each. However, none of them could win any awards. Gulzar received four (4) nominations for the film Maachis. Pran, Govinda, Nasir Hussain, and Shobhna Samarth received the Filmfare Special Award. It was for the first time when four people received it. Chinni Prakash won Best Choreographer for the song Sheher Ki Ladki. The song was remade and used in the film Khaandaani Shafakhana (2019). Manisha Koirala became the first actress who won the Critic’s Best Actress Award for two consecutive years. She won for the film Bombay in the 41st Filmfare Awards (1996).
